EPISODE 201 | SEPTEMBER 3, 2026
And We’re Back! What Season Two Has in Store
Listen here:
Notes
Season 2 of Surfing the Quicksand is here!
After a summer spent meeting new people, recording new conversations, and thinking about what I want this next season to be, I’m excited to be back in your ears and on your screens for another “school year” together.
This season, we’ll continue exploring the challenges, transitions, and possibilities of midlife, with conversations about reinvention, resilience, caregiving, relationships, work, learning, community, and more.
But one idea is already emerging especially strongly for me: the quicksand is layered.
Rarely are we dealing with just one thing. Career frustration happens alongside caregiving. Parenting challenges arrive when life already feels heavy. Relationship changes, aging parents, menopause, questions about what’s next? They overlap. And sometimes it’s the weight of all those layers, rather than any single one, that leaves us feeling stuck.
Season 2 will make room for those layers, while also bringing you stories of hope, creativity, reinvention, and women who have looked at a need in their communities or their own lives and asked, “What if I could do something?”
My hope is that Surfing the Quicksand continues to be a place where you feel nurtured, inspired, educated, entertained, and a little less alone as you navigate this stage of life.
And I’d love your help shaping where we go next. If there’s a topic you want to hear about or an amazing woman you think I should meet, please reach out at Ka***@**********od.com or find me on social media.
Welcome back. I’m so glad you’re here for Season 2.

Kathy (00:08)
We are back. It is season 2 of Surfing the Quicksand. I I took a break, but I didn’t really take a break. I took a break from you, maybe hearing episodes for the last two months, but I’ve been hard at work, meeting lots of new great people, recording lots of episodes. I have already so many recorded, and gosh, I am so excited about what this season is going to have in store for us for the next nine months or so.
Kathy (00:37)
my season is kind of like a school year, right? We’re back to school well, I’m gonna say East Coast New England, New York school year, where I grew up. The idea that we start back to school right after Labor Day and we wrap up sometime in June. That’s kind of been my calendar. So even though I don’t have kids and even though I’m not in the school world, I still think of September as my New Year’s, right? So
Kathy (01:00)
Maybe you do too. And so this resonates and you’re happy to have I mean back in your ears or back on your screens for season two. I one of the things that I think I’m invested in more in season two is episodes that talk about a couple of themes that are already emerging. So I feel like we’re already been talking about reinvention, resilience.
Kathy (01:26)
Learning education and inspiration about things that so many of us need at this stage. and also I think a diversity in topics, right? We’re not all supporting caring for aging parents, and we’re not all parenting, and we’re not all even dealing with menopause, right? Lots of different things. But I still want to bring such a breadth of topics to you that hopefully even if it doesn’t apply to you, you’re gonna enjoy a good interview, a good hour of conversation.
Kathy (01:55)
Or you’re going to find something that you want to share with somebody you know and love because you think they’ll get something out of it. So I’ll ask in advance. I hope you’re sticking around for a topic, even if you’re like, I wouldn’t have thought that out for myself, but it’s Kathy, so I’m gonna listen. But I think the other thing that comes up a fair amount more for me in season two, as I’m already reflecting on episodes I’ve recorded, is that the quicksand is layered.
Kathy (02:24)
No one of us is dealing with one thing. It’s everyone, everything that feels like a lot is against the backdrop of other things that also feel like a lot. Right? When something comes up for you and you’re parenting, parenting was already heavy before that thing showed up. Dealing with aging parents and and helping to navigate that whole scene was probably already heavy before this last turn kind of amped it back up.
Kathy (02:52)
Dealing with challenges in relationships, dealing with reinvention in your career. my gosh, you know, I’d already been kind of fed up at work and now this, right? We’re already navigating depths, and so many of these other issues are layered on top of them. So I’m really in the space of acknowledging the impact of those layers. And that it’s not one thing that’s getting us weighed down in this stage of life.
Kathy (03:19)
I also am very focused, I’m finding, on stories of people who have created hope out of something that they were facing and talking with people who have started nonprofits, especially things that are focused on community service, people who’ve seen need and brought invention and creativity to the front and said, what if what if I could do something a little different? What if I could make a difference with just one step?
Kathy (03:48)
I’m really, I really have had some some really fun conversations already of people who just have unique stories about how they’re changing lives locally or more broadly than locally, because they saw need and they saw that they had themselves had talent or just interests and energy around trying to make a difference in people’s lives. I really want surfing the quicksand to be just an environment where you feel nurtured, inspired.
Kathy (04:16)
educated, entertained, whatever that is, and just be a source of some light and life as you’re getting through this stage. So I’m so glad that you’re back with me for season two. I also want to say, gosh, I never I never really did this in season one, but I know I’m supposed to say things like, hey, don’t forget to like and subscribe and go find me on all the platforms and
Kathy (04:44)
Do all that work to support me. I I want this to go as far as it can. I don’t know what that looks like, but I know further seems like the answer. And I I just want to be able to help more women navigate this phase in life with some hope and some guidance and some companionship. And so anything that you can do to help get that further along, I would really appreciate the support. So, you know, as the kids say, I guess, smash that like button.
Kathy (05:14)
And subscribe button or whatever that is. More importantly, if you could share when you come across an episode that you really enjoyed, I would love for you to share surfing the quicksand to your network because I know it’s become a real passion for me to share with you. If there’s something that you’re hoping that you’re going to see this season or hear this season, I would love for you to reach out to me. You can get me at Kathy at quicksandpod.com or find me on socials.
Kathy (05:43)
and reach out ’cause I am I’m not done yet building season two. I got a lot under my belt, but I’m not done yet. So there’s room always to hear from people who are listening, people who want to hear more, people who know amazing women that I should be talking to, who are experts in their field or have had some great stories that you know are perfect for conversations you and I are having every day. Or, you know, every week at least.
Kathy (06:08)
We’re just going to start next week with some episodes and you’re going to find them every week going on again through the rest of the quote unquote school year. and I’m really gonna try and bring a real diversity in terms of what you see week to week. So I hope you keep tuning in and I’m your company, whether you’re going for a walk or doing the dishes or driving a work, whatever that is. Thanks for having me along with you. I’m excited to see you.
Kathy (06:38)
I’ll see you back here in one week.
